Keeping rats and mice out of your home or business is a top priority due to potential health risks and property damage. Managing a rat or mouse infestation is no fun; however, how you chose to get rid of rogue rodents matters to the health of your family, pets, and wildlife. PRI is committed to developing resources and tools that provide information on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, common pesticides, and pesticide attributes.

Currently, there are two PRI Pest Management Bulletins available: one on setting up  vegetable gardens to be pest resistant and one on rats and mice pest control. This post is focused on rodents.

The bulletin on rodents provides an overview of integrated pest management methods for  controlling rats and mice and explores the benefits of low impact approaches. The rats and mice pest control bulletin covers key topics on effective pest management strategies including:

  • Preventative measures
  •  A three step action plan
  • Low impact approaches
  • A comparison of common rodenticides and their attributes
  • Regulatory updates on rodenticides
  • Links to additional resources

The rats and mice pest control bulletin outlines the importance of preventative measures such as sealing all entry points and provides an overview of effective treatment options for eliminating existing rodents on your property. This bulletin also addresses the potential risks associated with rodenticides, especially the high risk of accidental ingestion by children, pets, and natural predators. Successfully and safely managing rodent intrusions requires a careful evaluation of all treatment options before deciding on an action plan.

Our goal is to develop tools and resources that help people make informed decisions on pest management strategies. Please visit our Pest Management Resource Center for more information on our offerings.
